Filming a live episode of PBS Newshour outdoors on the quad at the University of Illinois’ Champaign-Urbana campus was a humbling experience. The forecast called for light winds but nothing close to the brief windstorm we experienced just before final rehearsals, knocking over a 20’x20′ frame and blasting through what I thought would be adequate wind protection on the mics. Thankfully I had a backup solution, and although it wasn’t as pretty as I’d have liked, the only wind heard in the broadcast was in the trees.
